The restaurant front of “Maruka”.

It is a restaurant where you can relish the real Sanuki Udon, one of Japan¡Çs three popular udons, in Tokyo. Sanuki Udon is characterized by its inexpensiveness and flexible noodle made in Sanuki region of Kagawa prefecture. It is said that the number of Sanuki Udon restaurant in Kagawa is bigger than the number of MacDonald¡Çs in Tokyo. Recently, making a tour of udon restaurants, called Sanuki Udon Tour, become a boom and thus many people from Tokyo and Osaka participate in the tour. A movie based on this boom ¡ÈUDON¡É was produced in 2006 and became a big hit. The recommended menu of Maruka is ¡ÈKamadama¡É (470 yen). Kamadama is a way of eating udon by putting a fresh raw egg and soy sauce into boiled noodle. The egg becomes half-cooked like that of Carbonara because of the heated noodle and so those people who are not very fond of raw egg can also enjoy eating. The time when noodle is sold out is when the restaurant gets closed.
